Gossip show at Terminal 5 (October 9,2009)

I saw Gossip live this past Friday, October 9th at Terminal 5 in New York City. I was fortunate enough to be in the front-to-the-left of the stage and got to hear the sounds and see the sights up close and personal. This was the first time I ever saw a concert like this and my first time seeing Gossip. I've only recently discovered their music while working at my last employer H&M (no longer there and I need a job folks). They played "Standing In The Way of Control" and "Careless Whisper" often. I really started to like the sounds I was hearing: Hannah's drums, Brace's guitar licks and electro sounds, and Beth's rocktastic amazing voice.

I had heard of Gossip a few times on Perez Hilton's websites, so I knew who Beth Ditto was and knew that they were an up and coming band. It took me awhile to connect the songs I was hearing at work to the band. But once I did, I was hooked! I'm just really starting to familiarize myself with their work, and I just love the raw energy of their sounds.

As for the show itself, I found it to be simply amazing. The sound was superb and had the right level of loudness to get people jumping, clapping, dancing, and screaming/singing, but not so loud that you were deaf for 4 hours after. I confess I didn't know all the songs (yet) but that didn't matter, I danced and clapped and jumped around just like everyone else did. Seeing Beth command that stage and work the crowd was something to behold.

After the brilliant set and great encore that featured a cover Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It" and "Standing in the Way of Control" the band left the stage. A minute or two later, Beth came out alone and sang acappella some of the verses of Queen's "We Are The Champions". Seeing how it was the same weekend as the Equality March in Washington DC, the song couldn't have been more fitting.

Beth said a final goodnight and thank you to the crowd and exited the stage in front of us in the front row. There were two girls and myself at the very end. We all got a hug and a brief hand hold from Beth. I told Beth "great show..thank you so much Beth" and she smiled and said thank you as she departed behind the stage. What a great show! What a great band! A simply awesomely great night!

Today I listened to an old 80's tune from former ABBA member Frida " There's Something Going On". I really love that song. I think Gossip should do a cover of that song the next time the record or play live. I think they would bring a new twist to what I think, is a great song. Also, I think Gossip should be asked to do the theme song for the next James Bond movie. How cool would that be?
